LEARNING TOGETHER: The Story of America

“If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”

On June 30, 2022, Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first female African American Supreme Court Justice.

Judge Jackson is an inspiration to little girls (and boys) all around our country. Her addition to our Supreme Court is a fresh breath of air. This highly accomplished woman (graduating magna cum laude from Harvard) is just the right voice needed in these unsettling times in our nation.

Finally, we have a seat at the table again.

On a side note, as a teacher/student of Black History moments like this make me so proud. Knowing our struggles for freedom, equality, and justice our journey has been tough, impossible, and full of unimaginable pain and suffering. Yet through it all, we continue to rise up, push aside our haters, and say YES, WE CAN! There have been many moments in Black history where we have beat the odds. And this is one of those moments.

And it only took us 233 years to get here, but this is a proud moment in our shared American History.
