Bessie Coleman, an American Aviator (1892 -1926)
Determined to learn to fly and despite being rejected by multiple American schools because of her race and gender, Bessie Coleman taught herself French, moved to France in 1919 to attend Caudron Brothers School of Aviation. Coleman became the first licensed African American female pilot. She performed aerial tricks such as stunt flying, barnstorming, and parachuting.
